Over 80 years of HVAC manufacturing

Powrmatic’s modest beginnings are rooted in the dreams of a young man that left his native Europe in the early 20th century to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams in America. That young man was B.I.J. Stamm, who struggled through the Great Depression, eventually founding New York City’s Oil Heat Utilities, which sold high-pressure steam boilers to the garment industry.

1932

BIJ Stamm was the ultimate entrepreneur. He left Europe as a young man determined to fulfill his dreams in the United States. After struggling through the Depression he began to see that dream come true. In 1932 BIJ Stamm opened Oil Heat Utilities in New York City selling high-pressure steam boilers to the garment industry.

1952

Powrmatic Inc (US) incorporates. BIJ Stamm purchases a struggling boiler manufacturer located in Finksburg, Maryland. The business is restructured and oil fired unit heaters are manufactured.

1960

Powrmatic US launches the manufacturing of the oil fired unit heaters at the Finksburg Plant. The company transitions from Kresno Stamm to Powrmatic.

1965

BIJ Stamm’s son, Arthur, incorporates Stamm International Corporation (SIC) and consolidates the three operating companies in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada under its umbrella. Powrmatic Ltd (UK), Powrmatic Canada Ltd, and Powrmatic Inc. (US) become wholly owned subsidiaries of SIC.

1974

Powrmatic US expands its manufacturing facility in Finksburg, Maryland.

1982

Powrmatic US expands its product range to include oil and gas fired TE Air Rotation units whilst Powrmatic UK designs and launches a range of radiant tube heaters.

1986

Powmatic Inc commences production of heat exchangers for the OEM market.

1988

Powrmatic Inc purchases the business and assets of Eltron Corporation of Cherry Hill, NJ, a manufacturer of electrostatic and mechanical filtration units and moves it to Finksburg, Maryland.

1989

Powrmatic Inc adds air conditioning to its air rotation units.

1995

Powrmatic Inc purchases the Circ-Air line of small air turnover units for heating applications of approximately 10,000 to 50,000 sq.ft areas and moves production to Finksburg, Maryland.

2005

Powrmatic Inc now operating out of 65,000 square feet of manufacturing space just 30 miles northwest of Baltimore. Powrmatic management, engineers and administrators sit just steps away from the bustling plant floor. A surprising number of employees have spent decades—up to 40-plus years—with the company.

2010

Powrmatic Inc expands its sport facility market

2018

Powrmatic Inc continues to build its flagship TE Air Turnover units with heating and cooling capabilities. The custom built TE range is now the number 1 choice in the USA for large warehouses, manufacturing facilities and sports stadiums.

2020

Powrmatic Inc now operates with a highly skilled team in Maryland serving the HVAC market across the US.
